The lads getting used to the ball at their feet again after two weeks out

After a couple of weeks off, the Bec Bs returned to action on Saturday with a 5-2 victory over a tricky Sutton High Reserves team to keep the victory train rolling. Our usually faultless pre-match preparations were tested with a few lads rocking up a minute or two late, leading to Rudy giving us all a look that would even make Sir Alex Ferguson drop the hairdryer and shit his pants.

Unsurprisingly, the game started slowly with the lads getting used to the ball at their feet again after two weeks out. And, unfortunately, we conceded first with a Sutton High player scoring from the edge of the box. 0-1 and we had a job on our hands.

Luckily, we have a big, baldy called William Dennis Rennie that weekly has defenders crying “what is going on…he wins the ball in the air every time!”. This week was no different, with Rennie slamming a header home for a much-needed equaliser. The goal lifted some pressure off our shoulders, and we started to play some better football. Unlike his moment in the first half, where Rohan ran away from the ball, instead of coming towards the ball, he inspired our second goal with some dogged pressing. Ro won the ball back high up the pitch, putting his body on the line and playing in Carlo who finished in emphatic style to give us the lead. The sweet Fernando combination. Half time 2-1, and at this point, I must give a shoutout to Josh who probably provided one of the most impressive halves we have ever seen at the Tooting and Mitcham sports club. The hallowed turf has never had the pleasure of seeing a man only muster a pass accuracy of 5%…

With a rocket up our arses, the Bec started the second half at a higher intensity. However, Cam took one step onto the pitch and we conceded, with a rebound from a free kick falling to the oppo making it 2-2. Nevertheless, in true Bec fashion, we stood up to the task as we won our own free kick in a dangerous area. The taker? Arran Brodie. Brodie stood over the ball like Trent, and with a deep inhale he struck the ball… it was a shocker. However, it took a lovely deflection into the path of Petch, who finished the chance off like a prime Haaland. Was it a fluke or was it great vision from Arran Brodie? We will never know…

At this point, Sutton High heads dropped and they started to look leggy. This was capitalised on by the boys in black and white, as Carlo stormed down the wing and dug out a beautiful cross for our Scottish powerhouse, Nathan, to fly like a Scottish salmon and head the ball in for 4-2. Fucking aye! A continuous high press led to our 5th, where the ball was won and Carlo gave the keeper the eyes before lasering the ball into the bottom right corner.

FT - 5-2. It was a pretty poor performance in the first half, but we stood up to another test and picked things up in the second. 6 points clear at the top and a big cup tie at the weekend. Up the Bec!

MOTM - Carlo - getting some silly numbers from midfield this season and was excellent in the second half. The pint he downed after was less excellent…

DOD - Josh - a unanimous one this week...
