Bec took on Westside at CCL1 level for the first time in soggy conditions at chalky lane. Despite the wintry outlook both sides were keen to get the game played to avoid a late season fixture pile up.
Westside we’re seeing a lot of the ball early on with the visitors happy to sit in and soak up the pressure. The first sight of goal came after 5 minutes when their striker nodded over from 10 yards, although the linesman’s flag was already raised. Blenkinsopp then flashed a half volley a couple of feet wide before the hosts had the clearest site of goal of the half when a quick one two opened up the Bec backline but Machacek closed the angle well to block.

The second half followed the same theme as the first with chances few and far between. With the game seeming destined for stalemate, both sides had golden chances to win in the final 10 minutes. It was the visitors who went close first, Heravi’s pull back was met by M’bango 10 yards out but he could only fire the ball well over the Westside stopper’s crossbar. The hosts then won a penalty when Machacek brought down the striker. The felled player dusted himself down but hit the post with his effort. To the relief of the home side the ball came back via a deflection off Machacek only for him to somehow hit the rebound against the top of the bar to huge relief of Tooting and the final moments of the game were played out without further meaningful action.
