Saturday saw 3rd place play 4th in a crucial match for both teams as they hunt down a promotion place.
Walton started the brighter and had a golden opportunity to take an early lead from the spot after 9 minutes when Parsons brought down the winger a couple of yards inside the box, however the visitors number 7 hit the outside of the post with the kick to the home sides relief. The miss seemed to calm Bec down somewhat and they edged the rest of the half bringing a couple of decent saves out of the Walton stopper. With both sides seemingly happy to go into the break level, Walton struck a crucial first blow a minute before the interval. There seemed little danger when they had a throw in deep inside their own half but a long ball down the Bec left released the number 9 who squared for the on rushing left winger to tap home from 10 yards.
HT 0-1
In the first action of the half, Bec had a chance to equalise when a well worked free kick found Thurbon in the box but his first header was saved and the follow up was scrambled away by the Walton defence. It was the visitors however who extended their lead when a corner was met by their centre back. The ball was blocked on the line but fell to the No.9 who stabbed the ball home from 3 yards.
Bec now had a mountain to climb and had 2 golden chances to half the deficit when firstly Wilshire slipped at the crucial moment and lifted a golden chance over the bar; then Oritis met a perfect Blenkinsop cross sweetly on the volley from 6 yards out, but his effort was straight into the keepers arms. Straight away after this chance Walton broke forward and with Bec players committed up field found a way to slide the No.9 through on goal and he slotted home nicely into the far corner.
Despite the uphill task Tooting continued to push for a lifeline and Wilshire and M’Bango both had clear sites of goal but their shots were blocked by the big frame of the Walton stopper. Bec did get a consolation goal with 15 minutes left when Ogunmade nodded home but it was to be too little to late as Walton left Campus Society Stadium with an important 3 points.
