Bec made the familiar journey down the A3 to take on a Godalming side struggling at the bottom end of the table. Tooting made two changes from Tuesday night’s league cup exit, with Field and Smith replacing the unavailable Stone and Fox.
The game did not start ideally for the visitors and they found themselves one down after 15 minutes. A Godalming counter-attack should’ve been stopped much closer to the source, but when the ball reached the G’s left winger there was little the Bec defence could do but watch as he cut inside and curled an unstoppable effort into the top-right corner. The visitors knew they had to step it up and responded swiftly, as a free-kick was flicked on by Heravi for Field to bravely head home before colliding with the upright. A key moment in the game followed when Machacek raced out to intercept a through ball, his tackle on the striker was clean but the ball touched his arm on the follow-through. The Ref, however deemed it accidental and play continued. A strong end to the first half then saw Tooting all but wrap up the points by half-time. Firstly, an own goal from a dangerous M’Bango cross gave them the lead, then M’Bango himself tapped home from an excellent Wilshere cross to make it 3. Thurbon then sent the Bec into the break with a comfortable lead as he nodded home from a Martin corner.
HT 1-4
The second half didn’t contain the excitement of the first half offering. Bec were mainly happy to soak up the home side’s pressure and play on the counter-attack. The visitors should’ve grabbed a second when the left-winger through on goal tried to chip Machacek but his effort didn’t have the trajectory to trouble Bec’s number 1. Tooting got there 5th goal of the game when Wilshere flicked in Martin’s in-swinging free kick.
A 4th league win in a row moves the Bec up to 6th in CCL1 as they stretch their unbeaten league record to 7 games this season.
