Having taken 2 points from the opening four games last season ( a run that ultimately cost the Bec the league title), manager John O'Connor stressed the importance of a strong start as we look to go one better this year.
The club had been busy in the summer, with 5 new signings making their debuts today.
Tooting started strong, dictating the play on a roasting hot day. Myles & Eddy (the two standout players), began to carve out chances, with Ogidi going close with a low drive that was saved by the Spelly keeper.
As the first half wore on, the pressure finally told as good build up play on the edge of the box gave Pani the chance to slot into the bottom corner.
Sensing a few more goals, the Bec pressed for the second, Pani threading the ball to Ogidi on the edge of the box, who beat his man and fired into the top corner from 20 yards.
HT Spelly 0-2 Bec
Spelly came out for the second half fast, putting the Bec under pressure for the first 20 mins. The back 3 defended resolutely, limiting Spelly to a couple of long range efforts. As the second half progressed, Spelly tired and the game really opened up. The third goal came following great play from Pani on the right, slotting the ball across the face of the goal for Ogidi to fire in.
With 15 minutes left, chances continued to fall for the Bec, with good chances for Parsons and Myles, whilst Spelly had their best chance with 5 minutes left, Z rushing off his line to make a strong double save.
FT Spelthorne 0-3 Tooting Bec (Oritis, Ogidi 2)
Good luck to Spelthorne for the rest of the season.
Next up we travel to Royal Holloway Old Boys, 3pm KO September 2nd.
